History
Consona Corporation was founded in August 2003 when the venture capital firm Battery Ventures (Battery) acquired and subsequently privatized Made2Manage Systems, then a publicly traded enterprise resource planning (ERP) software and services provider for small and midsize manufacturers.
Over the next three years, Consona acquired seven additional ERP product lines: DTR, Cimnet Systems, AXIS, Encompix, Intuitive, Relevant, and SupplyWorks. In 2005, Thoma Cressey, a private equity firm with significant software industry consolidation expertise, joined Battery as a secondary shareholder of Consona, significantly increasing the company’s access to capital.
In 2006, the company entered the customer relationship management market when it acquired Onyx CRM. Just seven months later, Consona acquired the KNOVA service and support knowledge management system and launched the company’s Consona CRM division.
In 2008, Consona continued to acquire, adding former technology partner Configuration Solutions in March and creating Consona Canada via the purchase of the Intuitive-related assets of Automated Design Systems in July. Later in the year, Consona acquired several VAR-related assets in China, and launched Consona China.
In 2010, Consona acquired leading open-source ERP software provider Compiere Inc., giving Consona its first Cloud ready ERP solution and entry into the distribution market.

Consona’s primary assets at this stage are Onyx Software Corporation (recently rebranded as the Consona Enterprise CRM product line) a formerly public provider of enterprise customer relationship management (CRM) solutions, KNOVA Software Inc. (recently rebranded as the Consona Knowledge Management product line), a formerly public knowledge management (KM) company, and the enterprise software assets of SupportSoft Inc., including a variety of customer support automation applications. On the ERP side of the house, primary assets include Made2Manage Systems Inc. and Intuitive Manufacturing Software Inc., both providers of ERP for small and midsize manufacturers. These acquisitions have provided Consona with a notable set of ERP and CRM solutions
The combination of Made2Manage and Intuitive was devised to strengthen horizontal ERP functionality, serving companies with up to $100 million (USD) in revenues. To further broaden market appeal, the initial decision was to combine the products and possibly bolster them with selected project-based capabilities from Relevant or Encompix.
In 2010 Consona acquired Compiere a Cloud-based, open-source enterprise resource planning (ERP) and customer relationship management (CRM) system. Compiere solutions provide businesses, government agencies, and non-profit organizations and customers can choose to deploy a Compiere solution at their own data center or adopt a Cloud-Based deployment using the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), a secure and scalable virtual computing environment.
